ISKANDAR PUTERI: It may take up to seven months to repair all damage to roads in Johor caused by the recent floods, says public works, transportation and infrastructure committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.

He said minor repairs such as road resurfacing could be done in weeks but major damage to slopes, soil erosion and bridges, amongst others, would take a longer time to repair.

"Post-flood repairs will take some time because there could still be water below the surface even though the road surface appears dry. Repair works can only be carried out when the soil below the surface is dry," said Mohd Fazli."Some of the worst-affected areas are Felda Ulu Tebrau in Ulu Tiram and Felda Chemplak in Segamat," he told reporters outside the state assembly in Kota Iskandar here on Monday .

Mohamad Fazli said certain repairs could not be carried out immediately as technical studies had to be done first before an approval process before appointing a contractor."The state government submitted an application to the Federal Government about two weeks ago for RM168mil to repair damaged roads."We will reassess the overall situation once the floods recede completely," he said.
