GEORGE TOWN: Penang is bracing for possible water supply disruptions stemming from floods in Baling, Kedah.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow advised the people to not panic and store as much water as possible while the Penang Water Supply Corporation monitors the situation.

"Several areas in the state will face water disruption. We are still waiting for PBAPP's update... Penangites, save as much water as possible," he told reporters after attending 2023 National Registration Day at the Penang Chinese Town Hall on Friday .Chow said the disruption was caused by high levels of water turbidity caused by flooding in Baling on Thursday .

He said according to PBAPP, the turbidity level of water from Sungai Muda at the Sungai Dua water treatment plant intake was still acceptable at 3am. However, the level increased sharply at 5am and the plant was unable to treat raw water from the river owing to risks from the high turbidity.ALSO READ:"PBAPP has announced that the treatment capacity at Sungai Dua LRA is 30% and supply disruption in many areas of Penang," he said.

In a notice posted by PBAPP on Facebook early this morning, the water authority said low water pressure can be expected in George Town, as well as North and Central Seberang Prai.Related stories:
