JOHOR BARU: Six temporary relief centres have closed with the number of flood evacuees in Johor falling below the 38,000 mark.

The total number of evacuees in the state stood at 37,635 as of 4pm on Tuesday compared with 38,456 recorded at noon.

The state disaster management committee said the evacuees were currently placed at 115 relief centres in four flood-hit districts. “Six relief centres have closed – three in Muar, two in Batu Pahat and one in Tangkak,” it said in a statement. The committee added that Batu Pahat still has the highest number of evacuees with 37,233 victims being temporarily housed at 107 relief centres.The committee also said that the floods, which hit Johor on March 1, have resulted in five deaths with three recorded in Segamat and one each in Kluang and Mersing.
