ALOR SETAR: Over 100 houses in Taman Seri Putra, Kuala Kedah here have been flooded following the high tide phenomenon early Friday morning.It is learnt that residents and villagers in the affected areas had prepared for the flooding by moving their belongings to higher ground.

The water level receded at about 2.30am but the authorities have advised residents to remain on the alert.State Civil Defence Force deputy director Major Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Zain said as of 8am Friday, 618 victims were still housed at these centres. "They are at Dewan Kompleks Rakan Sukan and SMK Pendang in Pendang; and SMK Alor Merah, SK Sri Gunong and SMK Simpang Kuala in Kota Setar," he added.

In Kuala Perlis, seven families from Kampung Baru were evacuated to a relief centre after their houses were submerged during the high tide phenomenon. Perlis APM operations officer Capt Saifuddin Abdullah said the victims, including two senior citizens, have been placed at the Institut Kemahiran Bina Negara in Kuala Perlis.Meanwhile, in Penang, the high tide is expected to reach 2.5m by about 1.30pm Friday.As of noon, several parts of Penang are experiencing heavy rain but no flooding has been reported so far.
