St. Lucie County is set to see impacts from Hurricane Milton, with the Emergency Operations Center preparing to have all hands on deck for the storm.

“Because of the size of it, and the magnitude, obviously we’re going to be feeling some good, tropical storm-force winds , potentially some hurricane gusts,” said Ron Guerrero, St. Lucie County 's Public Safety Director .“No, there’s always been a berm that’s kept the water in that side, and not anywhere near this sidewalk," Brooke Hornbecker-Burton, who lives off Green River Parkway .

Guerrero says the Emergency Operations Center is gearing up, bringing in outside resources via helicopter, and FPL is staging their regional operations right outside - treating this storm like a direct hit. “Tomorrow, we’ll be going to a level 1, full activation, which will mean 24-hour operations, until the event pass," Guerrero told CBS12 News Tuesday. "You should be finishing your preparations by today.”Even though Milton is hitting the West Coast first, Guerrero said it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

“Always have a plan, have an emergency plan," he stated. "Make sure that you have your supplies, your water, your non-perishable food, medicine, stay informed, make sure you’re paying attention.”Stay with CBS12 News, and your local agencies, for safety updates throughout the storm.
