Flooding expected to continue through Sunday as Ophelia blasts N.J. with rain, wind

While the storm was expected to weaken into a tropical depression, rainy and windy conditions were expected to continue.

Heavy rainfall from the storm could produce “locally considerable flash and urban flooding impacts” across portions of the Mid-Atlantic states from North Carolina to New Jersey through Sunday, the National Hurricane Center wrote in its latest forecast briefing. The storm was also expected to generate swells that could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents, the center said.
