AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration after much of the state was impacted by severe rainfall. On Saturday, the Governor's Office issued the disaster declaration for South Texas communities facing flooding that continues to affect homes, businesses, and agriculture.
This declaration covers Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties, but more counties may be added as the situation develops. "Texas continues to support local communities in South Texas impacted by heavy rainfall and flash flooding," said Governor Abbott. "I thank the first responders and emergency management teams for their swift response to deploy critical resources and assistance to local communities to save lives from severe weather threats across the state, including the wildfire danger in West Texas." The Governor's office encourages residents to prepare for similar situations to avoid future emergency situations if they arise. Abbott issued directives to various agencies to continue assisting with flood recovery efforts, including:Texas Division of Emergency ManagementTexas Department of State Health ServicesPublic Utility Commission of TexasState emergency response agencies are still operating at a heightened response level, as dry conditions in other parts of the state are prompting concerns over wildfires.
