Motorists are being urged to use caution on Interstate 80-94 in northwest Indiana due to flood waters that are impacting the highway, causing hazardous conditions and multiple crashes.
Motorists are being urged to use caution when driving in northwest Indiana Sunday morning as flood waters are impacting a major highway. According to Indiana State Police, crews have been working to clear a stretch of Interstate 80-94 just across the state line for several hours, but high water remains on the roadway and is leading to hazardous driving conditions.
An Indiana State Police spokesman said multiple crashes have occurred in the area, and troopers are on scene to try to warn approaching motorists of the hazard:was notified and sent a crew at 3:30, but the situation hasn’t improved. They are reportedly sending another crew to the area.
Troopers are sitting before the water with lights on trying to warn…the flood waters are still across the roadway in both directions near mile marker 3, posing a hazard for motorists in the area. Heavy rains occurred Sunday as a round of strong-to-severe thunderstorms rolled through the area, with several warnings issued across the Chicago area.
