Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will no longer be briefing the media about her department’s detailed plans regarding the reopening of schools.
Department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga had said in a statement on Monday that Motshekga would brief the media on Thursday about the preparations to reopen schools.
The purpose of the meeting will be to consider the work done by provinces this week, including taking deliveries of the Covid-19 coronavirus essentials required as preconditions for the reopening of schools. In a meeting held on Monday, Mhlanga said provinces reported that they were at various stages of readiness. He said they requested more time as they waited for deliveries of personal protection equipment from suppliers.
“In the meeting on Monday, we will receive a full report which we can then share with the public. We will also use the meeting to table Ramaphosa’s address which is also important for our planning purposes,” she said.
