Flights to the UK will be grounded if bedbugs are detected onboard after a serious outbreak in France. Air France said it will ground any plane where bedbugs are detected on board
It is feared the bedbugs currently spreading in Paris and other parts of France have developed an immunity to insecticides. Nicolas Roux de Bezieux, of pest control website badbugs.fr, told The Mail : "It's harder to kill them than it's ever been. Pest controllers have to return to kill them again because they survive the spray.'
The Mail says Millennium Hotels, which has 18 hotels is asking guests who check in whether they have recently been to France. Eurostar says it will disinfect trains if there is any sign of infestation. Transport for London is monitoring the capital's rail network.France has been forced to close seven schools over concerns that bedbug infestations are "piling up", the Education Minister has said.
Bedbugs are small brown insects, close in size to apple seeds, that hide in mattresses and box springs and emerge at night to bite and feed on blood. They often then crawl rapidly to clothing and luggage, hence them spreading to other areas such as public transport.
