The UK is to begin airlifting British citizens out of Sudan British military flights are due to to depart from an airfield outside Khartoum, the Foreign Office has confirmed

British military flights are due to toFlights will be open to those with British passports and priority will be given to family groups with children and the elderly or individuals with medical conditions.

The Foreign Office said it will contact those eligible directly and that people should not make their way to the airport unless called.The Prime Minister tweeted: “I pay tribute to the British Armed Forces, diplomats and Border Force staff carrying out this complex operation. The UK will continue to work to end the bloodshed in Sudan and support a democratic government.”

The Government has begun a large-scale evacuation of British passport holders from Sudan on RAF flights. Priority will be given to the most vulnerable, including families with children and the elderly.
