South faces tornado threat as blizzard warnings in effect in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska.
: By the time this storm system moves off the east coast at the end of this week, it will have dumped a foot or more of snow across at least a half dozen states, spawned tornadoes in the South, and acted as a kickoff event to rearranging the jet stream to ensure a colder, snowier finish to December. This will be especially true for the Midwest and East.
Blizzard warnings were in effect for areas of Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska. And it was still snowing in the Sierra Nevada, where nearly 6 feet was"Meanwhile, in the warm sector of the storm, a severe weather event with all hazards is possible in the southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley to Florida," according to the NWS.
The weather agency noted the storm could spawn tornadoes in some areas of the U.S. South, along with heavy rainfall.Dozens of flights were canceled across the U.S.
