with a fire truck at New York's LaGuardia Airport is recovering in the hospital and, according to her daughter, faces a long road ahead. Solange Tremblay, a veteran crew member on Jazz Aviation Flight 8646, was found on the runway still strapped into her jump seat after being ejected more than 320 feet from the wreckage, her daughter Sarah Lepine said on "My mom was conscious for all of this, and has sustained severe injuries from this event. She continues to fight and recover at a hospital in New York," Lepine described. "My mother's injuries include two shattered legs requiring multiple surgeries where metal plates are needed to repair the damage done to her legs. She sustained a fractured spine where she continues to wait and see if surgery is required." Lepine added that her mother still faces several additional surgeries, along with rehabilitation to learn how to walk again. As of Monday, more than $185,000 has been raised through over 2,100 donations. "At the moment our greatest fear is the risk of infection which could lead to other horrifying complications if her injuries become infected," Lepine wrote. "She is in New York for the foreseeable future for her recovery where she remains in constant fear of sustaining further damages than she has already suffered." Both pilots were killed in the March 22 crash when the jet struck a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle on Runway 4. Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia said it has been 34 years since a fatal incident at the airport. Garcia added that the fire truck had been crossing the runway to respond to a separate United Airlines flight after a pilot reported an odor issue. Homendy said a preliminary investigation shows the ASDE-X system—a runway warning system that allows air traffic controllers to track aircraft and vehicle movements—did not work as intended because the fire truck did not have a transponder. Investigators are focusing on why the fire truck was on the runway as the plane approached and why it did not stop despite urgent warnings from air traffic control. They are also examining the actions of controllers and whether other demands in the tower may have contributed to the crash.Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters that Rousseau, who does not speak French, showed a lack of compassion and judgment."I'm very disappointed - as others are, rightly so - in this unilingual message of the CEO of Air Canada ... a lack of judgment, a lack of compassion," Carney said.
