GRENOBLE, France - Jessie Fleming and Nichelle Prince got second-half goals to give Canada a 2-0 win over New Zealand on Saturday and book their place in the last 16 of the women’s World Cup.
Prince grabbed the second goal 11 minutes from time, stabbing home from close range after Christine Sinclair’s header struck the post. The defeat means the New Zealanders, who never had a shot on target the whole game and ended the match with just 30 percent of possession, have now gone 14 games without a win at the women’s World Cup.
