At times, Australia have looked weary and flat-footed in the World Cup, especially in the field. But Mitch Marsh says they’re raring to begin their fightback.
Two former Australian white-ball stars think Australia look flat and lack desperation in the field after a long year of cricket, but leading batsman and prospective future captain Mitch Marsh rejects this, saying that having their backs to the wall of two defeats would stimulate the team to produce its best.
“I think one of his strengths as leader is leaning on others. I think he’s doing a great job. He’s a great leader within our group. We’ve all got to make sure we step up and get us a win.” The state of mind of a cricket team often can be discerned by their performance and disposition in the field. Immediate past captain Aaron Finch, who is in India as a commentator, said Australia’s body language was “flat” and “standoffish”.
“There’s moments when they are fully engaged with the game and desperate to have an impact, but there’s other times when they seem to be cruising through. When asked if Australia needed to make radical changes to the team or to tactics, Marsh could not have been emphatic if he was hoicking a six over mid-wicket. “No,” he said.
