While Flash may not need his own version of the Batmobile, it turns out he keeps a vehicle stashed away for another reason. Wally West has a '67 red and black Camaro he only ever works on at normal speed, reminding himself of the importance or precision.
In the latest issue of DC Comics' The Flash, Wally West reveals his"Flashmobile" . While it's certainly strange that a speedster has a car, there's actually something pretty cool about Wally's new ride.
It may seem pointless and unnecessary in the eyes of Kid Flash, but the"Flashmobile" communicates something truly special about Wally as the Fastest Man Alive. Previously in The Flash, Wally convinced Kid Flash to ditch the Teen Titans Academy and to join him on patrol for the day. Watching over the entire globe rather than a singular city, the Flash proves he truly is one of DC's greatest heroes. However, even for a speedster that's a lot of ground to cover, which is why Wally formally asks Kid Flash to help him out. This leads into the new Flash #782, where the two speedsters are investigating some strange developments at Iron Heights Penitentiary.Grabbing a pair of stealth suits from his workspace at Terrifictech, Wally takes the time to show Wallace his"Flashmobile", a '67 red and black Camaro that Wally has been gradually getting the parts for, tinkering with it every now and then. While it's incredibly pointless for a speedster to have a car, Kid Flash also points out that it would take Wally only a few seconds to perfectly restore the car with his speed. However, that's not the point of the Flashmobile. Instead, the Camaro proves an endearing truth about Wally West's Flash. Using the Flashmobile as something to tinker with at normal human speeds shows that Wally knows when to slow down, a trait that's just as important for a Flash beyond how fast they can run. After losing and regaining his wife and kids, it's likely that he's learned to savor life and take the scenic route when he can. In that same vein, the fact that the Flashmobile is a clunker and doesn't currently run is far more beneficial for the Flash than a fast car, giving him a fun hobby he can enjoy outside his life as a superhero. Flash is able to move and think faster than anyone on the planet, creating the potential for him to become detached from everyday life. The fact that Wally has found ways to avoid this shows that the Flashmobile does have a purpose - making sure that the Fastest Man Alive remembers the importance of precision and care in his work. While the benefits are psychological, they're also essential, and it's to Wally's credit that he created a project that reminds him of this vital truth. While Batman definitely needs his Batmobile to get around quickly, that's never been a problem for the Scarlet Speedster. Instead, the Flash having a car is much more about having something he can work on when he needs to slow down and think things through, like when he has a particularly hard case. While Kid Flash may think the Flashmobile is dumb, it's a very cool addition to the Flash mythos that communicates a core strength of Wally West in particular.
