Beloved Conjunto music legend Flaco Jimenez is in the hospital, prompting well wishes from fans and fellow musicians.
Conjunto music legend Flaco Jiménez has been hospitalized, according to multiple Facebook posts from people close to the San Antonio-born musician. 'We kindly request your prayers for our dear friend and Legendary Flaco Jiménez, who has been admitted to the hospital with what we pray is a minor health concern,' Tejano singer Linda Escobar said in a Facebook post. 'May the Lord bestow His healing blessings upon Flaco.
' Roy Paniagua, whose Facebook page says he has worked with Jiménez, and Jose Pepe Sanchez, an administrator for the Tejano Legends San Antonio chapter, also posted messages asking for prayers and blessings for the famed accordionist. Jiménez, 85, was among the 11 National Medal of Arts recipients for 2022, who were recognized in a ceremony at the White House in October. Jiménez did not attend the event 'due to ongoing health issues and recovery,' according to a Facebook post. His son, Arthur, and other family members were set to attend on his behalf. The six-time Grammy winner boasts a global reputation and is friends with several music legends, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones. He continues to perform, and is a regular at the annual Tejano Conjunto Festival on San Antonio's West Side. Jiménez has been inducted into the National Hispanic Hall of Fame, and is credited with bringing Tejano and conjunto music to a wider audience. His 1992 bilingual crossover album “Partners” was added to the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress in 2021. He has been recognized with a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship and a Texas Medal of Arts
