A tragic road collision on the A59 in Gisburn, Lancashire, last Thursday has resulted in the death of a five-year-old girl. The incident occurred around 3.55pm when a Skoda Karoq traveling westbound collided with a Volkswagen Golf R near the old council yard, between the junctions of Crow Park Lane and Strawberry Fields.
Emergency services responded promptly to the scene. The Skoda's driver, a woman in her 60s, and two child passengers, a boy and a girl both aged five, sustained severe injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen, a man in his 20s, also suffered serious injuries. All four individuals were hospitalized.
Lancashire Police confirmed today that the young girl died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon from her injuries. The woman and the five-year-old boy remain in hospital, as does the Volkswagen driver, who is being treated as a witness. Sergeant Laura Kendal expressed that it is heartbreaking news and offered condolences to the family. She also emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and in its early stages.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision to come forward. They specifically ask that the public refrain from speculation, as it can be distressing for the family.
