The Chemical Brothers are that low!? These are the songs from triple j's Hottest 100 of 20 years ago that deserved much better.
The Vines, Missy Higgins and Interpol all made the Hottest 100 of 2004. But, in hindsight, should they have placed higher?can be a bit of a trip. We really loved some songs that you'll barely hear these days, while some absolute classics didn't even make the list at all.
This was the Adelaide-bred singer's first-ever Hottest 100 entry and she'd soon go on to have a fair amount of Hottest 100 success, culminating in a top 10 spot for the anthemic 'Chandelier' in 2014. Too damn low! At the very least, it deserves to be rubbing shoulders in the top 50 alongside the likes of The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and Kings of Leon. And I'd happily argue for 'Evil' to rank higher than lesser hits from The Black Keys, Placebo, The Living End, and that rogue loosie from Powderfinger's Best Of compilation.Australia's love for The Chemical Brothers does not necessarily correlate with the big-beat pioneers' showings in the Hottest 100.
