Five people have been arrested in the Northern Cape for allegedly submitting fraudulent Grade 12 certificates in their applications for police officer positions.
The fake documents were submitted to the provincial police's human resource management recruitment section when they applied.
Recruitment personnel questioned the authenticity of the documents and approached the Department of Education and Umalusi, the council for quality assurance in general and further education and training, to validate the certificates, said police spokesperson, Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien.Fake passports: Hawks, NPA granted permission to attach vehicles linked to home affairs corruption case
The case was referred to the provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, which led to the arrest of two women and three men. They appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, said Gamieldien. "The SAPS in the Northern Cape has issued a stern warning to the public that the police will not tolerate such dishonest actions when it comes to applying for employment in the organisation. They are assured that all documents submitted will be scrutinised, and the police will not hesitate to enforce the law," said Gamieldien. In times of uncertainty you need journalism you can trust.
