The movie wrapped on April 3. What Is the Background of Five Nights at Freddy's? The Five Nights at Freddy's franchise began in August 2014, with the release of the first video game of the same title created by Scott Cawthon. In the game, players take on the role of Mike Schmidt and must defend themselves from the cursed animatronics by using a camera system and two doors with lights to their advantage. The player is assisted by the previous night guard known as Phone Guy.
