New Albany, Olentangy Liberty, Bexley, Columbus Academy and Grandview Heights won OHSAA boys soccer regional semifinals Nov. 2.
Ethan Cohen’s speed might not have been the center of the New Albany boys soccer team’s game plan for a Division I regional semifinal Nov. 2, but the senior midfielder made himself part of the story.
Kyle Lapper’s six saves made the lead stand as New Albany improved to 14-1-3 and advanced into its third consecutive regional final at noon Nov. 5 at Marysville against Olentangy Liberty. Liberty, which improved to 14-4-4, will try for its first regional title since 2019 and seventh overall when it plays New Albany.
“ put it in my head and knowing I could do it I’ve done it before,” Stack said. “I just knew I could get one to go I got two. It was just two beautiful balls from Aidan and I was able to track them down.” “It’s another team we lost to in the regular season, which gives us that extra motivation to make up for that loss,” said Gatton, whose team lost to Jerome 2-1 on Aug. 30. “We’re putting together complete games right now. We’re hitting our stride at the right point.”John Westman scored with 8:25 left in the first half to give the Lions the victory over the Blue Devils in a regional semifinal at Logan.
“We came out and played our game,” Bexley coach Jason Goggins said. “We had a couple of chances in the first half that if we would have converted would have made things easier. With it being 1-0, that made the final 10 or 15 minutes a little more stressful, but we won another game.”Academy earned a spot in its first regional final since 2019 by edging Oakwood at Centerville.
