Lopez assaulted a correctional officer on a transport bus and then fled from the vehicle. Five people were found dead Thursday in a Leon County home within the area where authorities are searching for an escaped inmate, who officials now warn could be armed.
“A 1999 white Chevrolet Silverado, license plate DPV4520, was missing from the residence,” TDCJ officials said. “It is believed that escaped inmate, Gonzalo Lopez, may be driving the vehicle and may be armed.” He escaped May 12 when he assaulted a corrections officer and fled from a prison bus on Texas 7 near Centerville. Since, TDCJ, the Texas Department of Public Safety and U.S. Marshals Office have coordinated search efforts. A $50,000 reward has been offered for his capture.
