IPOH: Five activists charged with defying the conditional movement control order (MCO) by gathering at a hospital to protest in support of the rights of government hospital cleaners pleaded not guilty at a Magistrate’s Court here Thursday (June 4).
The five were National Union of Workers in Hospital Support and Allied Services executive secretary M. Sarasvathy, 67; treasurer V. Santhiran, 52; Industrial Relations Officer L. Danaletchumi, 35; and Parti Sosialis Malaysia activists P. Jody, 61; and M. Subramane, 60.
The five were represented by lawyers K. Kunasekaran and K. S. Bawani, while deputy public prosecutor K. Darinee prosecuted. “Santhiran works as a cleaner at one of the government hospitals, earns RM1,200, and he represents workers from 140 government hospitals nationwide. Kunasekaran added that the five were at the hospital grounds to hand over a memorandum to the employer of the cleaners based there.
