Here are some of the best things to do this weekend in San Diego from Friday, Sept. 27 to Sunday, Sept. 29. Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rights” trilogy can celebrate Hobbit Day at the Central IDEA Lab by making hobbit socks, pouches and ears they can wear.
4 to 10 p.m. Fridays; noon to 10 p.m. Saturdays; noon to 9 p.m. Sundays. Sept. 27-29 and Oct. 4-6. 1017 S. Mollison Ave., El Cajon. Entry fee of $15 for adults on Fridays and Saturdays, $5 on Sundays. Free for those younger than 21, club members with a current membership, and active military. Tickets are at bit.ly/3DDgnx8. At the old grounds of the Marshal Scotty’s Playland in El Cajon, the Haunted Amusement Park will rise from the dead this Halloween season.

For about six weeks in the fall, SeaWorld San Diego gets transformed into a Halloween-themed haunted house as its Howl-O-Scream returns starting Sept. 27. This spooky event will have a vast number of haunted displays, scare zones, activation areas, shows and music stages.
6 to 7 p.m. Saturday. St. James Parish Hall, 625 S. Nardo Ave. Donation: $10; free for children. Refreshments will be served. The weekend-long fine arts festival will showcase regional and international fine art along with a variety of wines, craft beers and kombuchas from more than 40 breweries, wineries and distilleries. There will be sips with savory bites and wines paired with gourmet cheeses along with sweet tastings. The festival features more than 170 artists from across the U.S. and Mexico and their works, from paintings, sculpture, jewelry and fine glass to ceramics, woodwork, mixed media and photography.
