IPOH: A fisherman with four children was sentenced to 15 years’ jail and ordered to be given eight strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court here today on seven counts of confining and sexually abusing his wife.
Judge Norashima Khalid handed down the sentence on the 36-year-old, who pleaded guilty to all the charges, including committing unnatural sex and carnal intercourse against the order of nature without her consent and possession of pornographic VCDs. The fisherman was sentenced to 15 years’ jail and ordered to be given two strokes of the rotan on each of the four counts involving unnatural sex and carnal intercourse, and a year’s jail each for confining his wife and possession of 13 pornographic VCDs.All the offences were committed in a house at Kampung Padang Tembak, Lumut, on April 16 and 17.
In mitigation, the fisherman said he had repented, and promised to not repeat the acts on his 37-year-old wife. The couple married in 2004. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Liyana Zamani Mohd Radzi, in seeking a heavy punishment, said it was not the first time the accused had committed domestic violence.
