A Pickerington Schools board member and Violet Township fiscal officer faces a misdemeanor charge of tampering with records, but it's unrelated to public duties
A Pickerington Schools Board of Education member and Violet Township fiscal officer faces a misdemeanor charge of tampering with records, but it's unrelated to her public duties. Vanessa Alana Niekamp, 55, was charged through a bill of information in Fairfield County for tampering with records, a first-degree misdemeanor, related to a 2022 audit.
Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa Schiffel is listed as special prosecutor. Her office declined to comment on a pending case, as did Niekamp's attorney, but Schiffel confirmed that the charge is unrelated to her public positions. The bill of information said the offense happened on July 15, 2023, and that Niekamp knowingly "did falsify, destroy, remove, conceal, alter, deface, or mutilate any writing, computer software, data, or record" a document titled "Audit 2022."Niekamp last year filed a lawsuit against CPA John Siebert and his firm for defamation over allegations that Niekamp filed the 2022 audited financial statements for the Pickerington Pantry in Siebert's and his firm's name without their knowledge. Siebert, according to the lawsuit, filed a criminal complaint with the Pickerington Police Department alleging she had fraudulently used the firm's letterhead and signature. Niekamp denied the allegations and accused the firm of multiple mistakes in its professional services. In particular, she accused Siebert of slandering her to others. The lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed in late 2024.
