Wed, April 3rd 2024 at 11:30 PMFirst Energy Pennsylvania is proposing rate increases for all of its providers including Met-Ed, Penn Power, Penelec, and West Penn Power.

According to company officials this would be the first time they've raise rates since 2016. The company’s proposal illustrates that customers would see monthly bills increase between 9 to 11 percent. The proposed rate adjustment builds on service enhancements like upgraded grid equipment and tree trimming in potentially dangerous areas, as well as direct customer services that help low-income residential customers participate in bill assistance programs.

"The work we are doing makes a positive difference – installation of new equipment coupled with proactive tree trimming has helped reduce the frequency of electric service interruptions experienced by our Pennsylvania customers by 14 percent since 2019,” says Scott Wyman, President of FirstEnergy's Pennsylvania Operations. If approved this would impact the bills of over 2 million customers starting on June 1st.
