It was a year dominated by the First World War which was at its peak, when Russia was declared a republic after the revolution and one which also had a major movie named after it, but 1917 was also the year Barbara Bowdler was born.
Barbara Bowdler celebrates turning 106 with a visit from Albrighton Primary School pupils Sam Peterson, Lily-Rae Johnson, Abigail Meayo and Kian Skippen, all 11. Her son and daughter, pictured, David Bowdler, 70, and Sue Scott ,74.
And 106-years-later her family, friends, well wishers and fellow residents of The Old Rectory Care Home in Albrighton helped her celebrate her milestone birthday.
