AST SpaceMobile achieves 5G cellular broadband connectivity for everyday smartphones through space— an unprecedented feat.
At the core of this marvel lies BlueWalker 3, AST SpaceMobile’s test satellite — the largest-ever commercial communications array deployed in low Earth orbit. The satellite, harnessing the AT&T spectrum, enabled a seamless exchange of voice and data between our planet and the cosmos.This remarkable feat builds upon AST SpaceMobile's earlier success in completing theusing typical, unmodified smartphones. In June, they achieved initial download speeds exceeding 10 Mbps.
Abel Avellan, chairman and CEO of AST SpaceMobile, voiced his excitement, stating, "Once again, we have achieved a significant technological advancement that represents a paradigm shift in access to information. Since the launch of BlueWalker 3, we have achieved full compatibility with phones made by all major manufacturers and support for 2G, 4G LTE, and now, 5G.”
