A winter storm brought the first significant snowfall of the season to the Philadelphia region on Monday, leading to school closures, travel disruptions and a snow day.

The week began with a snow day as snow fell across the entire Philadelphia region from morning until evening on Monday. FOX 29's Weather Authority is tracking the winter storm, which is expected to bring the first significant snowfall of the season. Snow is expected to reach Delaware around 2 a.m. The South Jersey/Philadelphia area should see its first flakes around 4 a.m. Monday. Snowfall will begin to taper off around 3-4 p.m. Monday.

Snowfall will come to an end for portions of the region by 7 p.m. Monday. An additional wave of snow showers may return to Philadelphia, South Jersey and Delaware as the storm exits the coast between 9 p.m. Monday and 2 a.m. Tuesday. Although models show a lot of spread for snowfall amounts, what is for certain is that South Jersey and Delaware will get the most snow from this storm, while the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, upper Bucks, Montgomery, Mercer and Monmouth counties are expected to get the least snow. Schools in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, including the School District of Philadelphia, closed Monday due to the winter storm. Amtrak has canceled several train routes in the Northeast region as Philadelphia International Airport is already experiencing several delays and cancelations in response to Monday's snowfall. As employees poured last-minute salt over their parking lot along Girard Avenue, drivers ran their last-minute errands and filled up their gas tanks before it became a hassle to do so. PennDOT is asking people to stay off the roads if traveling is not necessary
