The San Francisco Fire Department said it deployed five rescue swimmers in the dark on Friday night to pull three people from waters off San Francisco. Lt. Jonathan Baxter, a spokesperson for the department, called the situation"very dangerous." Baxter said the fire department first received multiple 911 calls at 7:20 p.m. about two struggling swimmers wearing caps off China Beach.
The U.S. Coast Guard also responded to this call, and with help from fire department swimmers, they pulled a 65-year-old male swimmer from the water into a boat, John Barron, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard, told SFGATE. A 50- to 55-year-old woman who was with the man"self-assisted," said Barron, and swam to shore. She was in stable condition but hypothermic and was treated by medics at the beach, Baxter said.
