Recognition of First Nations Peoples’ sovereignty means Australia will dissolve its “colonial, violent” institution, according to Senator Lidia Thorpe in her address to the Senate on the Voice to Parliament.

“Sovereignty has never been ceded but for the first time in this country’s history, people are starting to talk about sovereignty and what that actually means,” Ms Thorpe said.

“To recognize First People’s sovereignty in this country will dissolve this colonial violent institution that we’re all in right now.
