The Manchester comedian will be seen leading the staff and pupils in the latest series which is set to air very soon on BBC One
BBC One's hit high-school drama Waterloo Road will return for its fourth reboot series this September with Salford-born comedian Jason Manford taking on the role as the fictional academy's newest headteacher, Steve Savage.
The first images of Manford's character Mr Savage have now been unveiled, along with a description of his on-screen persona. The new head is described as a "charismatic charmer who impresses everyone he meets and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty to achieve the results he wants". A synopsis for the latest series of Waterloo Road teases: "With its new academy status, new school building, and the arrival of Steve Savage, Waterloo Road sees a changing of the guard. Battling some expected teething problems, the students and teachers attempt to find their feet and make big decisions that affect their future at the school.
Jason Manford, now 43, expressed his enthusiasm for Waterloo Road when his role was confirmed, showing fondness for the series which originally aired in 2006 and ran for ten seasons until its cancellation. Following a surge in streaming popularity, the show was revived in 2023, featuring a new generation of teenage students.
