The 30,000-square-foot temple is scheduled for completion in about 20-24 months.A groundbreaking ceremony Saturday celebrated the start of construction on the first temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Fort Worth area.
The 30,000-square-foot temple will be built on a 9.37-acre site in the suburb of Burleson at Southwest Hulen Street and Greenridge Drive. The building, designed by Chandler Growald of CKG Architecture Inc., is scheduled for completion in about 20-24 months.Because of rain, the ceremony was held indoors at a Latter-day Saints meetinghouse in Burleson. Presiding was Elder Jose Alonso, who read a dedicatory prayer. Burleson Mayor Chris Fletcher, Fort Worth City Councilman Michael D.
It will be the second Latter-day Saints temple in the Dallas Fort-Worth area, which is home to a Mormon population of about 83,000, according to the church. The Fort Worth area alone has around 33,000 members and 30 meetinghouses.Temples differ from meetinghouses, where the public is welcome to attend Sunday worship and weekday activities, the church said in a press release.
