A court date has been set.
Actor Alec Baldwin was summoned to appear in court on Feb. 24 for a first appearance after being charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust in 2021.
Baldwin is scheduled to appear before Chief Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer at the First Judicial District Court of New Mexico in Santa Fe.The charges against Baldwin, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, and assistant director David Halls were announced last month before being filed on Tuesday. Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed each are facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, while Halls has agreed to a plea deal in exchange for pleading guilty to negligent use of a deadly weapon.
Included in the filing documents was a 10-page statement of probable cause, explaining why Baldwin is being charged. According to the document,"Baldwin acted with reckless disregard and/or more than mere negligence in this incident."After it was revealed that Carmack-Altwies would be bringing charges against the actor, Baldwin's attorney, Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanuel, said, “This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice."
"Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds. We will fight these charges, and we will win," he said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.
