Storms began closing in on the area around 8:30 p.m.

/ CBS New YorkThe CBS2 Weather Team issued a Red Alert for late Thursday evening into Friday morning as strong thunderstorms moved into the area.The severe threat is much lower thanks to the ocean's cooler air knocking down the threats.
