Temperatures climb into the 60s by Tuesday before rain moves in late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - If you’ve been miserable in the cold over the past week and a half, there’s good news: the worst is behind us. The brutal chill that’s gripped central and southern Alabama is finally on its way out.

This week brings a warm-up through Tuesday with highs climbing into the 60s, followed by rain chances late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. By Thursday, temperatures settle back to more seasonable levels in the 50s and 60s before another warming trend arrives for the weekend. This morning is starting off cold across central Alabama with temperatures in the teens and low 20s, but the good news is the winds are calm and there’s no dangerous wind chill to worry about. This is just a brief pause before the real change arrives. By this afternoon, things start warming up in earnest. West to southwest winds will return and begin pushing warmer air northward from the Gulf. Highs will reach the low to mid-50s across central Alabama, with slightly warmer conditions expected in south Alabama near 60 degrees. Then Tuesday hits, and that’s when central and southern Alabama will experience something that might feel almost surreal after the past week. Highs are expected to climb into the 60s — a 40-degree swing from this morning’s chill. It’ll feel a lot more seasonal, and after shivering through January, that warmth is going to feel really nice.Watch the latest live and local weather data below, streaming on WSFA Weather Now!
