Turning colder and drier by Thanksgiving and into the weekend
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - It will be a week of change across central and south Alabama. Today stays warm, with highs pushing near 80 degrees. On Tuesday, a front will bring rain and storms back to the region.
Behind the front, colder and drier air moves in for Thanksgiving and the start of the weekend. Out the door this morning, it’s cool with a few clouds and light winds. Patchy dense fog has developed in some spots, so use caution when heading to work or school. This afternoon, temperatures surge above average again under a mainly to partly cloudy sky. Highs will reach the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, with southerly winds around 5 mph. A front will push into the state late tonight into Tuesday morning. Ahead of it, showers and storms will develop. A few storms could be strong in west Alabama early Tuesday, with damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, thunder and lightning, and hail possible. The tornado threat is low but not zero. Scattered showers and storms will continue through Tuesday, all ahead of the cold front that moves through Tuesday evening into Wednesday. As in the early morning hours, a few storms could be strong to severe. Damaging winds, heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and hail remain the main threats. The tornado risk stays low but not zero. Highs will remain in the 70s with cloudy and breezy conditions.By Wednesday, expect a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will reach the upper 60s to lower 70s with breezy northwest winds at times. Overnight lows will fall into the 30s under a mostly clear sky. Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday will be chilly. Highs will top out in the 50s and 60s, with a slight breeze. Conditions stay dry with plenty of sunshine. Overnight lows will be clear and cold, dipping into the 30s. As for the weekend, temperatures trend warmer. Highs return to the 60s to near 70 by Sunday, with lows in the 40s.
