MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A few days remain in September, and afternoon highs will continue trending warmer than seasonal averages. Near 90-degree weather is expected today, Tuesday, and Wednesday. While the heat holds on through midweek, temperatures are projected to cool slightly by the end of the week, with afternoon highs dipping into the lower 80s and overnight lows settling into the 50s and 60s—finally bringing a fall feel to the air.
Rain chances remain near zero over the next five days. Out the door this morning, conditions are mild, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s under fair skies and a few scattered clouds. Winds are out of the northeast at 5 to 10 mph, making for a pleasant start to the week. By this afternoon, highs will climb into the upper 80s to lower 90s under a partly to mostly sunny sky. Winds will continue from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph, occasionally gusting. Dry weather is expected today and tonight, with overnight lows in the 60s and 70s accompanied by a steady northeast breeze. The final day of September will stay warm and dry, with highs in the 80s to lower 90s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Winds will remain light from the northeast, around 5 mph. On Wednesday, highs will once again reach the upper 80s to lower 90s, with light easterly winds. Overnight, lows will trend cooler, dipping into the lower 60s under clear skies. Cooler air arrives late in the week. By Thursday and Friday, highs will hold in the lower 80s under mostly sunny skies, with overnight lows in the 50s and 60s. Skies will remain partly to mostly clear. This pattern continues into the weekend. Highs will reach the mid-80s Saturday and Sunday under mainly to partly sunny skies, with lows in the lower to middle 60s. Rain chances stay low, though a stray shower is possible by Sunday. In the tropics, powerful Hurricane Humberto is tracking northeast, away from the United States. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Imelda has formed to the southwest of Humberto. Current guidance suggests Imelda will slow down and curve eastward, staying offshore before reaching the Carolina coast.
