Expect temperatures in the 90s on Monday as the first heat wave of the season settles in across the region. NBC10 First Alert Weather meteorologist Bill Henley says to expect some record high temperatures to day, hitting the mid 90s starting Monday and for the next few days as the first heat wave of the season moves across the region.

The first heat wave of the season is on the way with temperatures launching into the 90s starting today. Sunday afternoon we had a high of 89°. Today's forecast high for Philadelphia is 95°, which would break the record set on this date in 1962 of 94°. Day two in the 90s is tomorrow.

Tuesday afternoon will be a touch hotter up to 97°. That too would break the record for tomorrow's date from 1996 of 96°. Our final day of this heatwave is Wednesday with a forecast high of 95°.

Then a chance of strong, potentially severe thunderstorms being ushered in with a cold front late in the day Wednesday. The cold front will move through the area and bring end our heat wave. As hot as it's going to be, it's not your typical summer humidity. The feels like temperatures, the heat index, will be close to the actual temperature, within a couple degrees.

After the cold front passes late Wednesday, it's back to much cooler weather and the potential for some much needed rainfall coming our way for the balance of the week and the weekend too with high temperatures in the 50s and 60s Thursday through Sunday.
