FIRST ALERT: A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of southern Vermont, with thunderstorms possible across New England later in the day. See live radar and the latest forecast here:

A few strong storms and isolated flash flooding are possible in northern and western parts of the regionA flash flood warning has been issued for parts of southern Vermont Tuesday afternoon, on a day when thunderstorms were expected to cross New England.

Tuesday starts quiet with only a few showers in northwest New England and a separate disturbance over the Atlantic set to scrape across Nantucket and perhaps the Outer Cape with a few showers from mid-morning to mid-afternoon.Sign up for NECN newsletters. By Tuesday afternoon, however, an approaching cold front and associated jet stream disturbance aloft will move into New England from northwest to southeast, triggering showers and thunderstorms, with the highest chance northwest of a line from Boston to Providence.

Afternoon scattered showers and thunder will tend to converge by late day and evening over the deep interior, posing an elevated risk of flash flooding for Vermont into central New Hampshire, and perhaps in a few spots of central to western Massachusetts and western Connecticut if downpours sit long enough over these areas.
