Rain chances increase late week; weekend system could bring winter weather

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After one more cold morning, central and south Alabama will experience a dramatic shift in the weather pattern this week. Temperatures will climb into the upper 50s to low 60s by late week, with increasing chances of rain as a series of weather systems move through the region.

Clear skies and light winds created ideal conditions for strong cooling across central and south Alabama. Early-morning temperatures are in the low to mid 20s across central Alabama, with mid-20s readings possible in south Alabama. Wind chills will dip into the low 20s.The cold pattern continues through Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and below-average temperatures. Central Alabama will see highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, with similar readings expected across south Alabama. Highs in central and south Alabama will warm to near 60 degrees. Rain chances increase late Wednesday night, with more widespread coverage developing after midnight.Rain chances increase Thursday and Friday as a frontal system approaches. Highs will remain near 60 degrees across central Alabama, with plenty of cloud cover. Overnight lows will settle into the 40s.The weather pattern becomes active again Friday night into the weekend as another frontal system approaches. Rain is expected to return Friday night and continue into Saturday. There are indications that winter weather could impact parts of the South this weekend, especially as colder air moves in behind the system.
