The 30-plus reports of nighttime explosions in the past six month have dwindled a bit with increased patrols, but the sounds have not completely abated and the investigation remains ongoing
A series of small, unexplained but nerve-rattling explosions in Vista in recent months have tripped car alarms, spooked pets and sent residents looking for answers. Sheriff's officials have increased patrols and say they have received more than 30 reports of the mysterious explosions heard around the city over the past six months. A Ring video posted online captured one blast in the Townsite neighborhood that lit up the sky and appeared to shake the camera.
Residents often post comments on Nextdoor on nights when the booms are heard. One person posted on the neighborhood site in August that she thought the explosions were homemade fireworks and being set off on Indian Rock Road. In mid-September, another resident noted that evening's noise and rumbling. 'I thought it was Camp Pendleton blowing things up. But isn't it a little late,' the resident wrote.
