Jewel Staite declares that she's a Disney Princess now that Firefly is on Disney+. 'I am a Disney Princess by default, I don’t make the rules, I am basically Ariel now'
Jewel Staite declares herself Disney's latest princess after Firefly's arrival on Disney+. The space Western centers on the lives of the ragtag crew of the Serenity as they traverse the galaxy in the years following a deadly civil war. Led by ship captain Malcolm Reynolds , the crew finds themselves the target of the law after harboring a pair of high-value fugitives.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Staite, who played Firefly's ship mechanic Kaylee, has the perfect reaction to the show's Disney+ debut. Taking to her Twitter, Staite says that, now that her family has discovered Firefly is on Disney+, she's basically a Disney Princess. The show joined the streaming service alongside other Fox properties, following Disney's 2019 acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Staite rounds off her comment by joking that, while she doesn't "make the rules", she's "basically Ariel now".
That said, the 'verse has still managed to continue away from screens. The Firefly franchise has spawned plenty of tie-in media, including a successful series of comic books considered canon. The show's stars have also kept the idea of a Firefly reboot alive, with Fillion once dressing up as his Firefly character in Castle and Alan Tudyk keen to have more Firefly-related cameos in his series Resident Alien.
Hope for more Firefly isn't completely lost. Since joining the Disney family, several Fox properties have already been revisited, including Night at the Museum and the Alien franchise. With the popularity of Firefly refusing to wane, it surely puts itself at the top of the pile for a potential return. Still, if Firefly doesn't make the comeback it deserves, Staite is still Disney's latest, shiniest Princess.
