Firefighting crews have only contained 25 percent of a massive Hill Country fire that has destroyed 1,400 acres near Fredericksburg, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
The fire started just after noon on Tuesday, and dozens of residents have been evacuated from the area.. Officials have not said when the park will reopen.
Multiple agencies are also responding to a wildfire in Blanco County that has burned 800 acres and is only 30 percent contained as of Wednesday morning. At least four agencies, plus additional air assets, are assisting with the brush fire.said crews were able to stop the forward progression of the Smoke Rider fire overnight and reported that the containment line was doing well.
The fire started Tuesday afternoon, and the Texas Department of Transportation has closed FM 165 between FM 2325 and U.S. 290. Multiple evacuations were issued for the areas around the fire as it continued to move north and northwest. A shelter has been opened at the Blanco Methodist Church at 61 Pecan Street.
The two fires are part of several blazes that are currently burning in Central Texas. Crews are also battling fires in Hays,Across the state, the forest service responded to 26 wildfires burning more than 3,500 acres on Tuesday. Officials with the forest service said the upper-level ridge of high pressure that is responsible for the hot and dry conditions fueling the fires is here to stay through next week.
