The Eaton Fire caused extensive damage to the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, leaving many heartbroken. However, amidst the ruins, a hidden mural emerged, depicting a scene of life from centuries past. The mural, believed to be a compilation of moments from the Israelites' journey through the wilderness, offers a glimmer of hope and beauty amidst the tragedy.
NPR's Scott Simon shares the story of the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, which burned from the Eaton Fire. A mural was concealed behind one of the walls.
I initially thought it was a biblical scene. Kristine Garroway, who's a member of the congregation and a professor of Bible at Hebrew Union College, told us. I began to go through the Hebrew Bible in my head. I believe now the mural may be a compilation to show various moments of the Israelites wandering in the wilderness. Professor Garroway's teenage sons played basketball at the center's gym the night before it burned down.
