UPDATE: The ground stop has since been lifted. Officials say a fire at an employee laundry room is the cause for the ground stop.

According to Flight Aware, the ground stop was issued shortly before 7 a.m. and it was since lifted at 7:30 a.m.

Firefighters with Houston Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire after all employees evacuated. The fire did not affect the passenger terminal, however, officials said smoke may be lingering throughout, and does not pose any danger.Passengers are urged to contact their airline as operations at Terminal C may be affected.. There still might be a lingering smell of smoke. United Airlines passengers might be delayed as ops return to normal this morning. Please verify status of your flight if you’re coming to IAH.
