19 News asked the property managers when and if people can go home, and they told us “no comment.”
“It’s been hard, like we don’t have the means to know where we’re going to live, how we going to survive this without help,” said Endia Anderson, a Terrace Towers Apartments resident. “I don’t even know if it was my apartment that was burnt up, I’m not sure.”
According to East Cleveland City Council, 100 residents were taken to The Sherman House at Case Western Reserve’s North Building for shelter from today to at least Sunday. In addition to providing shelter, council said food, showers, fresh linen and additional fans will also be provided. “We’re grateful for the partnership with the Salvation Army and their willingness to provide a space for the residents to stay the last two nights,” said Emily Probst, Regional Disaster Officer, American Red Cross of Northern Ohio. “Because of prior commitments, the facility is no longer available as a shelter location. We’re pleased that Case Western Reserve University has offered to provide dormitory space to the residents.
By Sunday, council said the management company will have housing logistics worked out for residents, however due to the extensive damage at Terrace Towers, it will be at least 30 days before residents can return.Copyright 2023 WOIO. All rights reserved.
