Bexar County officials investigating a fire-related fatality

Bexar County officials are investigating a fire early Sunday in southwestern part of the county that left one person dead and injured a firefighter, a sheriff’s deputy and two other people.

The county received an emergency call shortly after 9 a.m. for a structure fire in the 17900 block of Sheperd Road, east of Lytle. First responders from the Lytle Fire Department and Emergency Service Districts 2 and 5 found a trailer home engulfed in flames, and learned that someone was trapped inside, according to a county news release.

“Rescue attempts while the fire was being fought had to be delayed due to the intensity of the fire, which led to one firefighter’s injury. He was treated at the scene,” the county said. Firefighters later found a deceased person inside. Two residents were transported with severe burns and are being treated at a local hospital. A sheriff’s deputy also suffered burn injuries, and two other deputies were treated for smoke inhalation, after making rescue attempts, and were taken to a hospital for [email protected]
